Wondering about the weather? This weather gauge isn't always current, so check the last updated time. Typically, if the wind speed is 15 mph or higher, there will be whitecaps on the lake. Plan accordingly! If there is thunder or lightning while you're out rowing, return to the dock IMMEDIATELY. Wait at least 30 minutes from the last clap of thunder or strike of lightning before returning to the water. Safety first!

Wondering about the bacteria level in the lake? Wake County now has a website that tells you if the bacteria count at Lake Wheeler (or any other county lake) is dangerously high. Typically, high bacteria counts do not affect rowing. "Primary contact" activities, including kayaking and sunfish sailing, are not permitted, but non-primary contact activities, such as waterskiing and wakeboarding, are. So... don't drink the water!
