Fall Sculling Program: Intermediate Instruction

Been rowing with the club for a while or just starting?  Maybe you just finished a Learn-to-Row and decided this is the sport for you!  This program is especially for those who have completed the Learn-to-Row and want to further develop their sculling skills and technique and improve their physical fitness. The goal of this program is to become an intermediate sculler who can row a long period without a missed stroke. We’ll focus on improving boat balance, executing proper technique at catch and finish, and synchronizing with other rowers in a boat. Individual sessions may be held to take out participants in singles.

Classes for 2008:

Session 1:  October
TBD

Session 2:  November – TBD

Each session includes 9 classes scheduled to meet the needs of the participants.  Sculling classes will be in the club 4X, 2X, or 1X at Lake Wheeler. This program is limited to 4 rowers at a time.

Class Fee: TBD (for club members)

Organized Weekend Practices
We are currently having open, club practices on weekend mornings. If you're new to the area and know how to scull a little, please come down to the lake Saturday and Sunday mornings at 7:30am to join in the fun. We generally have enough people each morning to fill up the doubles and quads. The best way to keep up on a daily basis regarding practices and races is to join the club and our Yahoo! Group. Just click the link and request to be added to the list.

Camp Instruction
The kids have their camps, and now you have yours. There are several sculling "camps" on the east coast where you can spend 3, 4, or 7 days getting expert attention to improve your sculling technique. Less we forget, enjoy the great accommodations and terrific food, perfect for post-row hospitality.

Our members have been to two in particular: Calm Waters Rowing in Lancaster, VA, and Craftsbury Sculling Center in Craftsbury Common, VT. Both offer excellent instructors who cater to both first-time and experienced scullers alike. These camps also offer several different models of singles (1x's) for you to try as your skills improve.
