All
hands turned out to help dig holes,
pour concrete, weld steel and paint the new rack space. RRC worked with
Raleigh Parks and Rec to build enough rack storage for eight doubles,
eight quads and 28 singles. Special thanks to Shawn Stephenson for
pulling together funding and getting support from the City for the
project.

Fire at Lake Wheeler Destroys Boats, Racks December
13, 2006 - (Photo gallery)
Early Tuesday morning, two brush fires burned through 15 wooden racks,
9 privately-owned single shells, four sets of oars, and one club-owned
double. In addition, three club owned singles sustained damage due to
melting. It has yet to be determined if the club's singles are rowable.
In
total, this puts the club
down
one racing double, two recreational singles, one racing single, two
sets of oars, and five three-tier racks. The privately owned boats that
were destroyed were all racing singles. If anyone can help the club or
private boat owners, please contact our equipment manager, Jim Pickens.
Owners of the privately
owned shells and oars need to contact the following people to take care
of their insurance claims.: The
lake management and Richard Costello are very sorry that this happened.
They understand how big of a loss this is to the club and its members. |
